Maybe you don't know this but all the "non-food items" we give out are given to client's from the office during the check-in process. This is because one of the rules we adhere to as a Harvester's affiliated pantry is that we will not put a non-food item on a shelf with a food item. The volunteers in the office like this policy as it gives them the opportunity to give clients items and participate in the giving process. These non-food items are the only items the client's get to pick out themselves as our grocery service is considered curb side pick-up in which our volunteers shop the food and put orders together and take it out to the clients. This month we've been giving out plastic Easter eggs stuffed with little toys. We have stuffed all the eggs that have been donated with animal shaped crayons, stickers, LOL buttons & other similar size toys however we've run out of eggs! We don't have enough for every kid, and we are asking people to please clean out your closets or basements and bring us your used plastic eggs! We also take bags of new eggs should you be inclined to buy some to help. Other items needed are toiletries like soap, deodorant, toothpaste and other like items. We even take hotel soaps, shampoos and lotions that people hang on to forever and then never use. If you would like to help, please drop off donations Monday through Friday, from 8am-6pm at New Hope Food Pantry in Olathe. You can make a huge difference in a child's Easter! On February 28, 2024, at 5 pm, we will be hosting our 8th installment of our quarterly "3 Cans & A Good Time" event at the ACA Business Club of Overland Park, and we are looking for corporate partners.
"3 Cans & A Good Time" is a unique food drive that not only fosters community engagement but also directly benefits the New Hope Food Pantry in Olathe. This pantry serves individuals and families in Johnson, Wyandotte, and Miami Counties, providing essential support to those facing food insecurity. Our goal for each event is ambitious yet achievable: to raise 1 ton of food. In December, with the generous support of local businesses, we successfully collected 5,415 pounds of food, making a significant impact on the lives of those in need. But unfortunately, due to the severe need in our community, that amount of food will only last New Hope Food Pantry TWO DAYS. That’s why we need your help. As a corporate partner, businesses will not only contribute to the success of our food drive but will also receive prominent recognition during the event and in promotional materials. This is an excellent opportunity for your company to showcase its commitment to corporate social responsibility and community involvement. Before the February 2024 event, we will have a standalone website which will host all current and past partner and sponsor information, provide information about upcoming events, and recaps of past dates. As a corporate partner, you will have prominent visibility on our website during the leadup and duration of the event, as well as on all promotional posts on social media and physical collateral. All social media posts will be shared by all 15-20 event sponsors, as well. We understand the importance of building strong relationships with local businesses, and we believe that our larger corporate companies involvement in "3 Cans & A Good Time" will not only align with their corporate values but also provide a platform for positive exposure within the community. This corporate partnership opportunity is unique in that the amount paid is based on how many pounds of food is raised! Choose a partnership level, then pay a non-refundable first half up front, then the second half if we reach the goal associated with your level! The partnership levels are as follows: Platinum: $1000 - $500 up front, another $500 if we raise 3,000 pounds Gold: $500 - $250 up front, another $250 if we raise 2,000 pounds Silver: $300 - $150 up front, another $150 if we raise 1,500 pounds Bronze: $150 - $75 up front, another $75 if we raise 1,000 pounds If you are interested in becoming a corporate partner, please let Tiffany VanSickle, Director of Marketing for Team Real Estate know no later than January 19th. Your dollars donated will go directly to New Hope Food Pantry to be used for buying necessary items for the families in-need. Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate in our community. We look forward to the possibility of partnering with you to achieve our goal of raising 1 ton of food for the New Hope Food Pantry. Martin Taggart, Team Real Estate, is the brain child behind this amazingly fun event as a way for local businesses to demonstrate their willingness to take care of the community. It has been wildly successful at raising food to stock the shelves here, and every 8 weeks they have committed to throwing another event bigger than the last. "3 Cans & a Good Time" is just that! Caylon Umphrey, NHFP Executive Director, says "it's the most fun event I attend!" Though the ACA is a private club, they open this event to the public as a way to come alongside the community for a good cause, but having fun while doing it. "Every time they throw another 3 Cans, I invite tons of people simply to come to the party with a cause!" Be our guest and let us know if you win a prize! About 10 $25 gift cards often are given out to prize winners selected from attendees. Food is provided by Chris Cakes, so come hungry & ready for flippin' flap jacks! WOW! We have some exciting things going on around New Hope Food Pantry! We have teamed up with the Valley of the Northeast Scottish Rite to try to raise money so both organizations can help children and families in need of food and medical care. There will be breakfast & lunch served through a snack bar & live music by the Teresa Deaton Band sponsored by Team Real Estate of Overland Park, KS. The tournament will have a $200 valued first prize, $100 value for second place and a $50 prize for 3rd place. We will of course have food and adult beverages, as well as a silent auction & vendor booths. Pass the word to everyone to encourage attendance as the more people who come, the more money our organizations will make! We've always said it takes a village, and we have been really fortunate that many local businesses have given their time, money and attention to helping us reach our goal! Already Max Motors has signed on as the event sponsor, Rawhide Harley Davidson of Olathe, KS signed on as a Gold Sponsor & Independent Amsoil Dealer, Tom Gorby & Shore Tire of Overland Park have signed on as Nickel Sponsors! This is also a great event for business owners and sales people to attend as a large networking event will also be taking place as we nosh on delicious food provided by Malaura Catering. Check out the promotional video we put together with footage from the last event promoting the next one. We hope to see you...especially with a lot of canned goods with you! Every week, 1 or 2 people have been emptying that 1 cluttered drawer that everyone has which contains all the hotel soaps, shampoos, lotions & other various sample products we don't use but hang onto in an effort not to waste. Maybe it's the thought of zombie apocalypse that we think "just maybe I'll use all these products some day in case of emergency" that drives us to collect and hang onto toiletries we didn't want when we were given. Well, we need those! Maybe you've been hanging onto to them by God's divine grace! If you're ready to reclaim your drawer (or closet shelf) and help God's people, grab a rather large sack and gather any unused toiletries you've been hanging onto and drop them by the pantry from 8:30am-6pm. Other items around your house we desire are: used Walmart type sacks, rubber bands, binder clips, new items unwanted, stuffed animals and any unused gift cards you don't think you'll ever use. In case of Zombie apocalypse, feel free to come get assistance. (That's a joke, we don't believe in zombie's.) We are looking for more plastic Easter eggs to be donated as we've started giving them out this week and most people have said "yes, they celebrate Easter" and want the eggs. We give them a bag of candy, and even have baskets on hand if the family needs them...we could use some more baskets donated, also. It's ok if you're plastic eggs are used, as even the new packs, we are breaking them down into bags of 8 to give more families some eggs. We average about 650 families a month, so we need to have a bag of eggs to offer to all. Huge thank you to community members who have helped out already. Someone sent us eggs through Amazon that heard we needed them. What a great community of helpers we have! If you have eggs to donate, please drop them by the pantry anytime between 8:30am-6pm any week day. We are located inside the double car garage at New Hope Presbyterian Church that sits on the corner of 133rd St & Black Bob Rd in Olathe, KS. Since opening in April of 2011 have served thousands of families over the years. In 2022 almost 30,000 people were served, SAVE THE DATE! Our next 3 Cans & A Good Time Happiest Hour networking event and FOOD DRIVE is coming up in just 3 short weeks! Join us on April 5th at 5pm to make connections and raise food for New Hope Food Pantry! We're going after a new goal of 1000 POUNDS so we need YOUR help!

It affects all states, not just rural areas. Food insecurity can affect people of all ages and races. Food insecurity is one of the most important issues facing our nation today because it has so many consequences for families, communities and whole economies that rely on healthy food systems to feed people who need more than what they have access to at any given time. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines food insecurity as a limited or unpredictable availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways because of economic hardship, lack of opportunity, or other reason. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines food insecurity as a limited or unpredictable availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways because of economic hardship, lack of opportunity, or other reason. Food insecurity is a problem that affects all states, not just rural areas. The USDA reports that more than 12 million Americans experience hunger every day--and over one-third don't get enough nutritious food at home to keep them healthy--and nearly half are children under age 18 who rely on school meals for their meals. Food insecurity affects millions of Americans every day, but it is a problem that affects all states, not just rural areas. Food insecurity affects millions of Americans every day, but it is a problem that affects all states, not just rural areas. Food insecurity is defined as having limited or uncertain access to nutritious food due to a lack of money and other resources. The USDA defines "limited" as being unable to buy enough food at least once per month and "uncertain" as not knowing exactly how much food one needs each day (or week). In 2016, about 12 million people were considered to be food insecure in the U.S., including 3 million children under age 18 who were considered "very low-income." Food insecurity does not discriminate based on race, gender or ethnicity; it affects everyone regardless of background or income level--and this can lead directly into health problems later down the road if left untreated for too long! Children are more likely than adults to be affected by food insecurity. Children are more vulnerable than adults to food insecurity. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), children are at risk for hunger because they have limited access to resources and less control over their lives than adults do. They also face additional challenges when it comes to accessing nutritious food, such as grocery stores that don't sell fresh produce or schools without kitchens where students can prepare their own meals. In addition, many parents lack skills necessary for cooking healthy meals on a regular basis--and may rely on fast food restaurants instead because they know how much healthier those options are than what's available in convenience stores or fast-food chains Children experiencing hunger may not even realize they need help until they're already hungry enough that it affects other aspects of their lives |
